In November, 1998, Tidal Energy (TE) was founded by Aaron Davidson and Craig Hill (D&H) as a vehicle to research, develop and market a new water turbine technology that could harvest the immense energy resource in moving water in rivers, tides and ocean currents. Known as "hydro kinetic" energy, feasibilities revealed it is the greatest quantum of clean, green, renewable and sustainable energy on the planet. After several years of research, a radical new type of venturi shroud was tested in October, 2003. TE researchers, led by D&H, achieved a world record result with the highest efficiency ever produced from a single rotor hydro kinetic water turbine. When compared to the same bare turbine in free stream, the venturi design increased the flow over the turbine and increased the energy by 3.84 times. Peer reviews followed and confirmed that the controversial limit of the Betz Law (59.29%) does not apply to a turbine mounted in a venturi.
