Why choose The Crab Nabber?

I'm Dean Wing, the inventor of the pot monitoring device or Crab Nabber as I like to call it. I have been in testing phase for awhile and the results have been pretty awesome. My invention, unique not only in Australia (Patent number : 2018253498 (See attached documentation), but also in the world. I have also attached some travel maps to show my invention in testing. The idea emerged after I had numerous discussions with many people who had been adversely and financially affected by the loss of their legally caught crayfish stocks. The impact on their business. In the course of conducting their often dangerous and expensive cray fishing and other fishing activities, they would return catch-less as a result of thieves removing either their pots or their catch from the pots in the water. A review of Facebook and blogs from these distressed recreational and other fishers, demonstrates a volatile and dangerous attitude towards thieves. In one case one person had been venturing out for 5 days in a row and sometimes twice a day, however on pulling their pots up they were empty with evidence that crayfish had been in the pots. Sometimes the cray bodies are taken illegally and the legs and other parts are discovered in the pots by the owners. Drug users are now also a problem in the industry as they raid the pots then sell their illegal gains through the back doors of restaurants at a quarter of the market price, which the restaurant still charges full price for which also adversely affects not only the industry, but customers who unwillingly support this activity. The tragedy of the increasing black market of stolen catches, is that recreational and professional fishers are increasingly extremely angry and very distressed by not being able to earn a decent living and provide for their families. This can lead down the potential path of Domestic violence, anxiety and poverty are often the victim's outcomes. I believe my invention can severely reduce this outcome. There are many thousands of “Pots” in use every day. The Nabber alarm is designed to be attached to the “Pot” and submerged for fish catching purposes. When pulled illegally from the water by any other person other than the owner, the device emits a “ping” or text to the owner of the “Pot”. The Nabber works by accessing the existing communications networks (Telstra/Vodaphone). While submerged the device “sleeps” in low power mode. Once the “Pot” breaches the water surface, the alarm activates into operational mode and sends a signal via text to the owner. The owner easily identifies which “Pot” has been actively and illegally surfaced as the device also identifies the exact “Pot” and its GPS position. The owner can then either contact the Fisheries Authorities and report the incident, or track the offender to a boat ramp or other identified rendezvous location and record details to be forwarded as evidence. This invention has many extremely beneficial uses and not the least is the potential to protect and save lives. Not only does the crab Nabber work as an alarm, it can also track temperatures and pressure depth to get a better understanding of where catches are more likely to occur. I believe my invention can be a valuable asset to the large collection of data gathering resources. Can you imagine how much data you could gather from over 260,000 pots in WA, not including QLD.NSW and the other states and countries with my patent also pending in New Zealand. This device, can work for any pot (Salt or fresh water), long line, octopus line, crab pots, marron, abalone and many devices used in the catching of marine produce. Which is pretty cool. The device can also be used in a similar manner to medilert as you can always track the position of the vessels carrying these pots and id a boat is late, you can check the ping maps and reduce the search area significantly, not only saving lives but reducing the costs of search and rescue. If for example, the network hasn't received a ping from the owner of the boats in a couple of hours. It can send a txt message Asking if you are ok? If the server doesn't receive a ping, it may send a second ping or send a txt to the next person registered down on the pot owners subscription. If the vessel owner fails to return, the map tracking will reportedly show their last position and search and rescue can work from a fixed location instead of having a rough estimate of where the vessel ‘may' have gone. This is still a work in progress. Regards Dean
